What BirdBench collects

Nothing. There is no account system, no newsletter database, no comment system, no advertising network, and no third-party analytics. The site is static files served from a CDN.

Cookies

None. BirdBench sets no cookies of any kind, which is why you have never seen a consent banner here.

The Lifer Log and local storage

The Lifer Log saves your life list using your browser's local storage. That is a storage area on your own device. The data never travels to BirdBench — there is no endpoint to send it to.

Three consequences worth understanding:

Server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes standard request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL — to deliver pages and protect against attacks. BirdBench does not receive, store, or analyze these logs. Cloudflare's handling of that data is governed by their own privacy documentation.

Analytics

BirdBench uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free by design. It counts page views and records the basics a traffic report needs — which page, the referring site, general browser and country — in aggregate. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint your device, does not build a profile of you, and cannot follow you to other websites.

This is the one measurement on the site, and it exists so I know which tools people actually use. There is no advertising network, no session recording, and no behavioral tracking of any kind.

External requests

Fonts, styles, scripts, images, and data files are all served from birdbench.com. The only third-party request any page makes is loading the Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon from static.cloudflareinsights.com. The site's Content Security Policy permits that one origin and blocks everything else, so a third-party script cannot be introduced by accident.

If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker that stops cloudflareinsights.com will do it, and every tool on the site keeps working normally.

Affiliate links

There are none on the site at the moment. If retailer links are added later they will always be labeled, and clicking one would take you to that retailer, where their own cookies and privacy policy apply. BirdBench would receive only aggregate commission reporting — never your identity or what you browsed. Details on the affiliate disclosure page.

Children

BirdBench is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Since the site collects nothing, changes are likely to be clarifications rather than expansions.
